Last Sunday in the NFL broadcast booth Bob Costas actually jumped into the politics of gun control regarding the murder/suicide of Kansas City Chiefs linebacker, Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend. In fact, his statement was, “What I believe is, if he didn’t possess/own a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.”
What? This is supposed to be a sports broadcast. Hearing that statement on television immediately made me think of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Would they still be alive if O.J. didn’t “possess/own” a knife? If Mr. Costas would only think about it for a second, he should realize that a disturbed football player murdered an innocent mother of his and her child by shooting her nine times. Belcher may have realized somehow that what he did was wrong and killed himself. (I might add that O.J. brutally stabbed his two victims multiple times.)
Mr. Costas: The gun did no killing. Jovan Belcher did. I really don’t think you are an idiot, but you have said something that is–if you only take a second to think about it–idiotic.
