“…Barack Obama loves the future because that’s where all his accomplishments are.”
The more things change, the more they stay the same. In an unusually objective moment four years ago, the New York Times’ David Brooks decided to put some fleeting thoughts on paper for all to see. Perhaps he was lamenting Hillary did not win the primary, while an upstart junior senator somehow had. In any event, it remains today that Barack Hussein Obama is the same person he was four years ago, because this suggestion, despite the passage of 1500 days, is as apt now as when it was conceived by its author. Truth can hurt. But our nation hurts a great deal more because of what came true in this whimsical 2008 prediction:
“My fellow Americans, it is an honor to address the Democratic National Convention at this defining moment in history. We stand at a crossroads at a pivot point, near a fork in the road on the edge of a precipice in the midst of the most consequential election since last year’s “American Idol.”
One path before us leads to the past, and the extinction of the human race. The other path leads to the future, when we will all be dead. We must choose wisely.
We must close the book on the bleeding wounds of the old politics of division and sail our ship up a mountain of hope and plant our flag on the sunrise of a thousand tomorrows with an American promise that will never die! For this election isn’t about the past or the present, or even the pluperfect conditional. It’s about the future, and Barack Obama loves the future because that’s where all his accomplishments are.” [Part of a speech David Brooks suggested should have been given at the ’08 Democrat convention, writing on August 29, 2008:]
Our nation has been suspended from reality for four years by a president who came out of nowhere with history obscure: Kenya, Hawaii, Muslim, Christian, gay, straight, half White, half Black, socialist, capitalist, free-marketer, Constitutional scholar, community organizer, Harvard Law, Occidental College foreign student, Law Review editor-Law Review absent, father unknown-father from dreams, Communist mother, bank vice-president grandmother, basketball gym rat, Weatherman friend in the neighborhood, Chicago Way product, teleprompter specialist.
Tom Brokaw, speaking at the same moment in time as David Brooks was writing his “speech” above: “We don’t know about Barack Obama and the universe of his thinking…”
Tom, that was four years ago, and you’re not any closer to knowing now. And you, or we, never will because Obama has no soul, no principles, no there, there. He is a wish, an image, a thought without a structure.
If ever an election were necessary to alter the future of this nation, it is taking place in two weeks. This nightmarish apparition currently holding the office of President of the most important nation ever formed in the known world, must be defeated and sent to the dust bin of history.
Update, President Obama October 26 :
“I don’t want your vote just because of what I have done, I want your vote because of what I’m gonna do.”
