PBS: NOW Stands Foursquare for Hogwash

Friday, September 12, 2003 – Public TV’s “magazine,” Bill Moyers' NOW, seen in Oregon on OPB.

Scott Thomas is on the board of the Federal Elections Commission, an agency which is supposed to keep America’s elections clean and fair.  He is a big supporter of the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act that the Supreme Court has now put to the front of their agenda.  (When the black-robed legal deities of America migrate to their ancestral judicial breeding grounds on the first Monday of this month, it will be the primary item on their august minds.)

This has created a problem for Mr. Thomas.  You see, after demanding passage of this act, top Democrats in Congress like Tom Daschle, the senator from South Dakota, are replacing him with somebody who will retard or even block enforcement of its requirements.  Their own act, you understand, and that of a few deranged Republicans.

Why are they doing this?  Simple.  They have discovered that they cut their own political throats with part of that act.  This is a quote from Thomas, on the program.  It's not a direct reproduction of what he said, but it's damn close. “Democrats got used to all that big corporate soft money, and it turns out that Republicans are better at collecting the smaller donations at the grass roots level.”

Ponder that for a moment.  Democrats, not Republicans, have been in the pockets of the big corporations.  Republicans, not Democrats, have the support of the common people.  That is what a leading election official of America, a dedicated Democrat, said.  I doubt if he understood what he was saying at the time.  Consistency filters are not standard equipment with liberal Democrats.  Tomorrow he will tell somebody that Republicans are slaves of the corporations and Democrats are the saviors of the “working class.”

But, there's more.

This conversation on this topic on this program this evening was also loaded with typical liberal misdirection – loaded to the gunwhales with Ken-Burns-like omissions of fact.

Read this carefully.  Not once during the conversation did Thomas or his interviewer (some blond, curly-haired, liberal flack substitute for Moyers) mention the following tiny item: the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act’s most heinous flaw is not its free speech limitation on campaign contributions.  It is that act’s denial of free speech rights to opponents of candidates in the weeks prior to an election.

All the liberal slant that's fit to print.

The reason for this section of the bill?  You know how the liberals are complaining that conservatives dominate the media, these days?  Because of this infamous piece of legislation, the public will during the final weeks prior to the election, receive virtually all their information about candidates from (are you ready for this?) the media.  That rings odd, doesn't it? You’d think with the domination of the media by conservatives, that’s the last thing the liberals would do. And, you’d be correct, because that isn’t what has happened.  The media isn’t dominated by conservatives and all those liberal frauds know it.  The media is, as they all full well know, dominated by their friends.

Some of us out here wonder how long the American public is going to remain willfully ignorant about what you’ve just read.  We find it difficult to believe that there are that many stupid, gullible people in this nation. Surely, if the people of America can grasp nothing else, they should be able to grasp that politicians would never willingly hand over their political future to their political enemies.  And, if Americans can understand that simple concept, then when they see that the only information they are receiving prior to an election is coming from the media, they must be able to add two and two and come up with the simple realization that this means the media is in the pockets of the people who gave them that power.

Some call this legislation the “Liberal Incumbent Campaign Protection Act” for that reason.  If the Supreme Court squashes this terrible piece of legislation, it will be for this denial of free speech rights as much or even more than because of the financial free speech limits.  This aspect, the pre-election sole commentary rights for the media, is the reason you should never shake hands with McCain or Feingold.  Some of the dirty stain might rub off on you, and no matter how many times you wash after that, it will never go away.

Do you still think Bill Moyer’s NOW is a fine program?  Even after what you’ve just read?.  Do you think that even if what I've described is true, that doesn't mean the rest of the show is similarly deceptive?   Sorry, but what I've described is not an anomaly on this program.  It is standard practice on this program, because this program, like PBS itself, is a public relations arm of the liberal (often called "progressive") movement in American politics. Mostly, this means Democrats.

Read on, MacDuff.

Next, we met George Soros, the multi-billionaire who created the Open Society Institute.  He takes partial credit for bringing down the Berlin Wall.  It was, of course, brought down by Ronald Reagan.  The Soviet Union was a financial disaster in the wings for decades.  All socialist or communist nations eventually collapse from a sheer lack of profitable economic activity. Reagan’s rebuilt American military strength pushed the house of red cards to the brink, and all he had to do was whisper a challenge in front of that wall to push it over the edge.

Mr. Soros gave no credit to the above.  He believes military strength is the wrong way to go in today's world.  But, it is interesting that Soros likes to identify with that Berlin event.  A WWII child of the ghetto in Budapest, he is, I think, an example of a very rich man who thinks his brilliance at one discipline makes him brilliant in others.

Soros said that you can’t introduce democracy to a nation by way of military force.  He has never heard of Japan and Germany, it seems.  Odd for an international financier.  They are both quite well known countries.

He says George Bush is a man of good intentions who has been captured by “extremist elements of the government following September 11, 2001.”  To defeat what he obviously sees as a puppet of neo-fascist elements, he recently gave $10 milllion to “America Coming Together,” a liberal coalition whose goal matches his own.  Defeat Bush and turn America over to the United Nations and Europe.  He is from Europe.  He knows how they understand these things better than some cowboy out of Texas.

Next on the program came a group of 911 widows.  They are attacking the FBI for “failing to connect the dots” prior to 911.  They pointed out evidence of misfeasance and incompetance years before 911.  1995, for example.  And 1998.  And the spring of 2000.   Months before the attack, we were told, Bush and Condoleeza Rice had word of what was coming, and did nothing.  Thus on this award winning Bill Moyers PBS program was the link made between 911 and the Bush Administration.

Do you know who was President of the United States in 1995, 1998 and 2000?  Do you know who picked the head of the CIA and the FBI, then?  The FBI is under the aegis of the Justice Department.  Do you know who the head of the Justice Department was during those years?  Do you know who the Attorney General of the United States was during those years?  Do you know who picks the Attorney General of the United States?

Shall I tell you who was the President of the United States during those years?  Who it was that created that CIA, that FBI and that Justice Department?  Who appointed that Attorney General?  It was Bill Clinton – the man who four times turned down offers by middle eastern powers who wanted to hand Osama bin Laden over to America.

And you just sit there and nod your head in agreement with those women who are blaming the screwed up FBI and CIA on the man who had control of those agencies for eight months before 911 instead of the man who controlled and shaped them for the eight years prior to 911?  If that is how you see all this, I hope the Martians on their first visit don't land in your neighborhood.  They will report home that they couldn't locate an intelligent species on Earth.

Use your power as a citizen.

What you’ve just read should be reason enough for you to do the following. Never, ever donate another dime to public broadcasting nationally or locally.  And, never send back to your state legislature or congress any politician who votes to use public funds to subsidize any facet of this or any other PBS propaganda portal.

These are simple things which you can easily do.  They involve not taking money from your wallet and not voting for an idiot.  If that is too much for you to deal with, then you deserve exactly what you will get – an energetic public broadcasting system that delivers constant attacks on your fundamental constitutional rights and your nation's ability to combat the forces of pure evil on this planet.  Propaganda and the oppression of your descendants.  That will be your legacy.
